Back in 1996, Nike created the Air Jordan 11 IE Low Referee Sample, an all-black shoe designed to be worn by and given exclusively to NBA refs. OK, it’s not exactly the referee sample, but CP3 showed up to USA Basketball’s minicamp in Las Vegas on Tuesday wearing an all-black Air Jordan 11 IE Low that paired a tumbled leather construction with what appears to be a synthetic nubuck mudguard. nike free run 2 grey white The materials and textures are a little off — the refs’ shoe was entirely tumbled leather, if memory serves — but you can see Dick Bavetta lacing these up in a big way.
It’s a cool, understated style, and one that’s not likely to hit stores, unfortunately. Still, we are in the midst of an XI IE revival, so anything’s possible. Check out a fuller shot below, and stay tuned for potential updates.
